So you have a vision for your new business! Excellent. Here are some more tips for building a Successful Home Business. Maybe the Number 1 piece of advice I will give you is work your tuckus off :) . The old saying is true. There is no supplement for Hard Work.
I just got finished watching an interview with BJ Armstrong the Point Guard of the All Time Great Chicago Bull team with Michael Jordan back in the 90's . I grew up watching their excellence. B.J talked about how hard Jordan worked even in practice. This is unheard of for basketball players especially in this day and age.
I was amazed to hear B.J describe how hard Michael worked. He was not concerned with getting tired or shorting his career. He was motivated and determine to be the Best. Well he is known today as the Best Basketball Player and maybe athlete of all time.
Hard Work Pays Off!
Let there be no illusions. When you go to start a Home Business there will be lots of hard work. People see all the glitz and the glamour of business. But what they do not see is the long hours and commitment that may have to go into segments of your business creation.
Every different type of business will have a life of its own. It will have its own personality. While landscaping might be cut and dry. See what I did there? :) . Your hours are set and there may not be too many complications to your daily plans.
If you are starting a Restaurant there are many moving parts. Food deliveries, employees, and customer interactions. I wanted my Burger well done and it's not. Can I speak to a manager? This is the second time I have come to your restaurant and wanted to order the Shrimp Fried rice and it is not available.
One thing to anticipate with your new Home Business is long hours getting it right. Setting up the right operation and training others to help you to run the business. The first leg of laying down the foundation of your business will be labor intensive.
There is a lot of Competition out there. Putting in the hard work and hours needed to get it everything right. To get it perfect! That might be the difference between Profits and Failure.
Hard Work Creates Your Own Salary
Working Hard in addition to the other segments of your business puzzle will help you to create your own salary. How much money do you want to make a week? How much money do you want to make a month? How much money do you want to make a year?
Well how hard are you willing to work? The great thing about running your own business is that you determine how much your worth. We get to determine how much money we make. One determining factor will definitely be how hard we work at our craft.
Where Should I Spend My Time?
Ok so you have decided to be a very hard and dedicated worker to your business! So working hard doing the wrong thing is not going to get us too far. So where just should I put my time in my business? Of course this is going to vary person to person.
But in general you are going to want to spend your first year or two focusing on mastering your sphere of influence. Here are some places you will want to nail down.
Don 't Be like Lucy. Keep up with your business before things get... Well let's say a little out of hand. :)
We Make Burgers!!!
Spending time and hard work building your company infrastructure is going to be very important as well. Think about this. It 's 11:30 and here comes the mid day rush. Where are all these people coming from? Well they heard about your world famous Crinkle fries and your Wamma Jamma Slamma Burger. It was finger licking good said one Review.
Your advertising and marketing efforts were wisely executed. This is what you wanted right? You are a success! But wait a minute. We are almost out of Hamburger buns and Crinkle Fries. We have just enough to maybe get through lunch and maybe a slow dinner rush.
OH NO!!! Today is Thursday and the next Bread and French Fry delivery is not until Monday afternoon.
This is a situation you DO NOT want to be in as a new business owner. So spending time getting your infrastructure right is a big deal. Think about getting the right suppliers, having great relationships with your suppliers, and knowing what your going to do in case of an emergency.
Mistakes happen and the unseen becomes reality. So being as prepared and nimble as you can is the key to keeping your Good name and keeping the money flowing through your coffers.
The Power of your Goals: Nuclear Fuel
You have heard it said before and it is so very true. The Dynamism of our goals cannot be understated. This can be seen in the custom of workers bringing a picture of their loved ones and sitting them on their desk while they are at work.
I might not love my job but I love my family. I love my spouse or my child. They are the reason why I am working so hard. They are the reason why I am working late hours. Well having great goals for yourself will help you put a face to why you are building your Business.
Because many times our Goals point right back to the reason why we started our Business in the first place. Most times the reason why people start a business is their families, their children, or a cause that is close to their hearts.
Of course at different times in their lives it could just be that they want to be the best! They hear a call in their heart to be the best in what they do. Maybe you just have a gift and your business is your way to express it. Maybe you just want to make a lot of money and be secure in your life. Go on awesome vacations and drive the finest cars.
Ok write those goals up. Put a picture up in your home or in your office. So that you remember why 5, 6, or 7 days a week you are spending time launching this company. One day this will all pay off.
What good is hard work if you never reach your goals in a business setting? So for me my goals go right along with my hard work. It really enhances my push for excellence. It helps me to overcome the fear of failure and rejection that comes with going into unchartered territory.
I felt it very important to create a resource sharing Tips for Building a Great Business. So people new to business would know what to expect before they jump in. As well as people who have more experience building a business who may have rushed into it before.
Would this time take a more cerebral , plotting and prudent approach.
Right off the bat here is one of my greatest Business Tips: Grab a good cup of Coffee and some Classical Music and press play.
Turn off the tv and move out any distractions. Business Time!
Question and Answer
How do you eat an elephant? Slowly. Ha ha ha! No the answer is One Piece at a time and slowly.
How do you run a marathon? One step at a time. Step, by step, by step. You see? There are no get rich schemes. If you get rich quick it will be because your just blew it out of the park! But this is not the likely outcome.
You will find being smart, intentional and hard working will cause your business to be built for the long haul. This is important because your time is money. You are investing your time, your hopes, your dreams and a piece of your life into your Home Business. If you do it right the first time you will not have to go back and do it again.
What can I learn right now without having to fall on my face?
Falling on your face in business means losing money , damaging your name and brand, and losing customers. It might mean the failure of your business. So in creating a once in a lifetime opportunity for yourself , your family, or your charity we do not want to waste time, money or efforts.
Vision , Passion, Skill, Scale, Guard Rails, and Foundation
As a veteran of home business I will give you my best tips for building A Great Home Business. The heart of any business is Vision, Passion, Skill, understanding your Scale, creating Business Guard Rails, and building a foundation. When Building a Home Business it is no different. You need to understand who you are and keep that. But also you want to develop a coherent Business operation.
I know your excited to get that Beauty, Health and Wellness , Affiliate Marketing, Cooking, or Landscaping Business off the ground. What I found out is it is much easier to accomplish your goals if you create a System. Not everyone plans to scale up their business but if you do plan to make your Home Business much bigger this will be very important as you teach others to replicate your actions in an attempt to reproduce your profitability.
There is no duplication without a System that is replicable.
You want your business to be Predictable, Disciplined, Focused, and Progressive. So let's start from the top and break down all that I just shared.
The Vision of Your New Business: Ok I know we live in such a new Snapchat, Instaface, Tweeting, and Facebook era. But even those powerful and cool platforms are built off , survive and flourish on the things that we are talking about right now.
So we have to go back to the foundations. Things that if you are like me with a little seasoning at 41 years old have heard all of our lives.
Create a Business Plan! Before you start doing you want to have a road map of where you want to go and how your going to get there.
Here are some thing things to keep in mind as you take your first steps in business.
Every entrepreneur is different and it does not matter if you come from a wealthy family or if you are the first in your family ever to start a business or go to college.
Let alone finish college. You are going to have to find out what works for you.
You will know in your heart what to do in your circumstance. But it is important to know the blueprint for building a successful enterprise. So any deviations you take from the blueprint is ok because the change in path were not done out of ignorance but convenience and choice.
You might say I am not going to create a business plan my first year of business. I am going to wing it. You might sell $100,000 worth of merchandise or make $25,000 in profit in your barbershop. But there may come a time in your business growth where you need to have a plan of action in different segments of your operation.
You might need to roll out new initiatives. Hire new employees or positions. You might need to hire an accountant. Ah you are a victim of your success. How do you keep up with the great job that you have done. You have to slow down now and plot all of this out.
This is because you did not make a business plan. Which is ok. We can take that!
Pump the Brakes?
But what if your business slows down or does not even take off in that first year without a Vision for your business. A Business plan is just a big name for a Written out Vision.
Having a Pen and Paper and writing down your goals, your guidelines, your Business needs, and your initiatives is a huge part of being able to give your business a foundation. But also some Guard Rails to guide you and keep you from falling off the cliff with stress and concerns.
One thing that will be a sure thing in building your Entreprise is when the possibility becomes an actuality. But even bigger is when the unseen possibility or the seemingly impossible thing becomes possible. Are you organized enough , flexible enough, agile enough and foreplanned enough to deal with such a thing?
Things like going into business without a business license, Business insurance, or the proper business designation such as an LLC. Talking to a lawyer about the event that you need to consult them for representation or advice. The business world is a big and hearty place.
To the victor goes the spoils. Better to be safe than sorry.
This may seem like a lot right now. But I tell you that building my business has been such a fun and rewarding thing!!!
Stay tuned for more tips. If you have any questions or comments please share them with us. Thanks
